Building a 60-person Remote Team

Building a 60-person Remote Team

Team Building

Building a 60-person remote team through culture.

In the beginning, we were a small startup providing offshoring capabilities. It was a lean operation, with just the CTO and myself as the COO. Our primary challenge? Convincing a US-based team that we could offer them valuable support.

Designing the Blueprint

With a vision to create a seamless workflow, we mapped out the entire process from start to finish. This blueprint enabled us to divide the process into distinct sections:

  • Customer Discovery: Engaging with potential clients to understand their needs.
  • Lead Qualification: Assessing which leads would be the best fit for our services.
  • Relationship Nurturing & Deal Finalization: Building trust and securing collaborations.
  • Customer Success: Ensuring that our clients received continuous value and support.

Implementation and Role Delegation

Step 1: Roles for Each Section

Each section of our blueprint was associated with a specific role, ensuring that every phase of customer interaction was handled by a specialist in that domain.

Step 2: Utilizing Tools and Training

To maintain cohesion and ensure efficiency, we adopted tools like Pipedrive, WhatsApp, and YouTube for demonstrations. Emphasizing clarity and accessibility, our training sessions were concise and specific to each role.

Step 3: Feedback and Growth

Channels of communication were always open, encouraging feedback from both our team and our US counterparts. This continuous feedback loop became invaluable in refining our processes and ensuring mutual growth.

Step 4: Delegating and Monitoring

A robust system was put in place to capture every data point, allowing for real-time monitoring of operations. This wasn't about micromanagement but ensuring the team had the support they needed.

Step 5: Metrics and Incentivization

Clear metrics and KPIs ensured clarity and direction. Coupled with corresponding incentives like bonuses and commissions, they motivated the team to always strive for more.

Step 6: Building Culture Through Sprints and Feedback

We focused on personal and social well-being, promoting a cohesive remote culture. Operations in sprints, regular feedback sessions, and emphasis on bonding were all integrated into our working style.

Areas of Focus for Our Remote Culture

From ensuring active communication through tools like Slack and Figma to organizing bonding retreats, we prioritized a cohesive team culture. Additional benefits like wellness sessions and workplace enhancements ensured our team's holistic well-being.
